Near the center of our galaxy there is a planet called Aritelia. In this planet you can find a vast archipelago of islands scattered on a peaceful ocean.
In a distant past people inhabited this archipelago. Everyone lived happily in their own island home.
But for some reason they were forced to abandon the planet...
Now, one after the other, they return in search of their home island, in wonder, in insparation.
Depending on what you choose to do in Aritelia, it can be many things!
Aritelia is a procedurally generated persistent online world where you can:
Aritelia is in active development by Pirron 1. We are a small, yet determined, studio with the goal of creating an immersive social MMO (massive multiplayer online game), accessible in the browser. We have been developing the required tools to bring AAA graphics quality and content to web based games for many years.
Release of version 1.0 is planned for 2022. Aritelia will be a free to play game, and you will be able to access it from any supported device directly from your web browser, no installation required.
In the meantime, we plan to leverage the easeness of deployment HTML5 games provide and open many of our alpha releases to the public. Our goal is to gather valuable feedback from the community as we release gameplay systems.
For the moment you can visit Aritelia in early access to get in touch with our creative process. Not many actions have been realized yet, but you can still enjoy the world and have some peaceful time. The game is suitable for all the ages, there is no gore or violence.
You can follow our development progress on Twitter.
Peaceful regards!
Version: 0.2.0 (alpha)
Release: 21th October 2021
Features: First release, procedural island generation, draft building mechanisms, persistent online world.
Trillions of unique islands waiting to be discovered.
Invite your friends to walk, build and play with you on your island. Travel the archipelago together.
Build elaborate structures, plant your garden, or grow a massive forest.
It's not easy to categorize Aritelia into this or that game genre. We could say it is more of a world and a
platform that provides you with a set of things to do and tools to use. Each island is a sandbox, providing tools
to players to express their creativity. Our technology goes up to a point creating beautiful procedural islands.
From there, we eagerly await to see what the players imagine and build while personalizing their islands.
In later versions of Aritelia more structured gameplay elements will be introduced together with the story.
Even though Aritelia starts as a sandbox experience there is a story to be told and a lore surrounding this mysterious archipelago. We plan to say that story, in parts, in coming releases.
Open alpha releases are scheduled to be released in Fall 2021. For each alpha release we plan to introduce one or more gameplay systems for testing and to receive feedback. After that we plan to follow up with frequent minor (bug fixes) and major (features) releases as we work our way towards our first stable release in 2022.
Large can be an understatement, it's enormous! Here is the exact number of unique island positions that can potentially generate an island, based on the region probability, or hold a handcrafted one and can be visited in game: 324000000000000036000000000000001. Reads like this: three hundred twenty-four nonillion, thirty-six quadrillion, one.
Yes, you are free to visit any island! You can start from the archipelago center (Nucleus region) and hop from island to island, or type an exact island location you got from a friend, or request a visit to a random surprise island.
As soon as you visit an island you connect to the unique island session. From that moment on you are able to watch any other player walking on the island (visitors and authenticated players) and interact with them. We aren't enforcing right now a hard cap on how many players can be on an island at any moment. We very much like to support a high number of concurrent players and we will continue to monitor and optimize our network layer after the initial release.
It is as easy as sharing a link to have your friends load Aritelia and land at the same island where you are walking. No installation is required! They can even open Aritelia from their phone or tablet device.
There have been many great advancements in what browsers can do in the last years, together with the hardware
becoming more and more powerful. WebGL and the upcoming WebGPU API browsers provide follows closely their native
implementations in what it can render, when it comes to graphics. Even though raw performance can be slower in
some ways when compared to native engines, game development has always been the industry that researches and
overcomes that kind of limitations.
Our biggest obstacle while developing Aritelia has been lack of proper tooling for this kind of experience (open
world game). We are very happy with our decision to invest in the PlayCanvas platform and build our tools with it.
Islands are the central piece of the world of Aritelia. Owning an island, even though it is optional and not a
requirement to access the game, in time will allow you to fully enjoy it. We will be releasing more info about
this in the future.
With the initial release a master reset button will be available allowing you to remove any user placed content
(structures, plants, rocks etc) and reset the island in its primitive form, to start over. Later on, as soon as
the friends release lands, you will be able to set per player island permissions: who can build and who can visit
your island, essentially you can keep your island as public or as private as you like.
